Battling corrosion in the metal canning industry has long been a problem. Ball Corporation (Broomfield, CO), a provider of metal beverage packaging, recently won the fight armed with a Republic Blower System.
Evident by the discolored tab and blown score panel, stress corrosion occurs when corrosive materials and moisture attack the exposed scored area of the aluminum can end. Within a couple of days blown score panels can occur, resulting in leaking goods. In addition, the canning industry must beware of secondary corrosion: the corrosion typically on the bottom of the can due to prolonged contact with liquid from leaking cans. While there are several solutions to the corrosion battles, Ball found that insuring their air blowers, particularly Republic Blower Systems’s RB1200, remove all moisture from the cans prior to packing was remarkably effective. By positioning the airknives at an angle across the can line, not only was the water removed from the cans to prevent stress corrosion, but the liquid was also pushed to the floor (not onto other surrounding cans) to prevent secondary corrosion.
Always looking to be innovative, Republic Sales & Manufacturing, Inc. recently began manufacturing a new blower based on a design that took into account the faults Republic noticed in repairing other brands of blowers. The company has been selling and repairing blowers since 1965. This extensive experience coupled with inventive engineering has produced a superior blower system now sweeping the market.
The Republic Blower is able to achieve Ball’s desired results using a smaller motor than originally thought necessary because the blower dynamics actually move air more efficiently. With operating speeds from 9,000 to 20,000 rpm, the RB1200 can be powered with a 3 hp to 20 hp motor. The RB1200 is capable of handling 1200 CFM of air or gas at pressures up to 3.5 psi. Because each blower is 100 percent operationally tested to meet the quoted performance statement, the company is able to guarantee Ball the results they need.
Republic Blower Systems, with optional airknifes and other attachments, are used in manufacturing applications such as drying PC boards and electrical components, removing dust, debris and liquid from parts, fume exhaust, static control, coating applications, and numerous other drying applications. ... One of the results was water entering
a bottom air knife and flooding out a Republic Blower that was installed
in June, 2000. After draining the water and expecting a seized blower,
I was surprised when it started without problem and has been running
great ever since. The blower was flooded for about 24 hours before it
was noticed. The belt tensioner is saving maintenance time and belt replacement
cost and should cut down on blower replacement caused by over tightening
of the belts. Thank you for designing something that works great."

... But, a maintenance supervisor for a Texas
die casting company found equipment trouble to be a mixed blessing. "Our
old blower system went out and we needed to buy a new one," he said.
The Texas company provides custom-manufactured dies used in manufacturing
hot water tanks, fan collars, electronic controls and much more.
"We originally upgraded to a Sonic system," he said, but when they
had problems with the unit they had to send the whole thing back to the manufacturer.
The cost was high and the down time even more costly. After speaking with a sales
engineer for Republic Sales and Manufacturing the supervisor decided to try the
new Republic Blower. "We designed our own system to blow off parts after
the deburring and washing process," he said. Using the RB 1200 with air
knife attachments he was able to see noticeable improvements.
"And the best part is we can do the maintenance ourselves," said the
supervisor, clearly pleased with the new system. The Republic Blower provides
easy access to internal parts making part replacement simple and fast. The company
found replacement parts were less expensive as well. The dark cloud of equipment
failure had resulted in a silver lining because they discovered the Republic
Blower. "Weve bought two Republic Blowers and will probably buy more," he
said.
Republic Blower Systems are used in manufacturing applications such as drying
PC boards and electrical components, removing dust, debris and liquid from
parts, cleaning and drying conveyor belts, fume exhaust, static control, coating
applications and numerous other drying applications. For more information about

... Mark Robinson, maintenance supervisor
for the Pepsi bottling plant in Mesquite, Texas, recently won this battle
when he developed a unique drying system using a Republic Blower system.
Using blue plastic shells to transport single bottles of Pepsi, Robinson found
unless the bottles were very dry the shells became wet, slipped in transport
and caused a lot of breakage. "We began using an Evans blower system but
were still seeing a lot of breakage," said Robinson. "We tried increasing
the horsepower of the motor and using a larger fan but we still weren't getting
the results we need," he said. Robinson agreed to try the Republic Blower
System only after the sales engineer guaranteed dry shells, and included a
promise to buy back the system if it didn't work.
